New Android handset

T-Mobile is reportedly set to launch a new Android-based handset sometime this summer, unnamed sources told the Wall Street Journal. The new device is allegedly called myTouch 3G, with a slightly rounded back and gloss finish, and will be manufactured by HTC. Confirming FCC filings, the myTouch carries the same basic design as the HTC Magic, an Android device currently limited to Vodafone distribution in the UK.

The Magic offers a touchscreen and sports a profile much closer to that of the iPhone, as the physical keyboard has been omitted. The navigation buttons and trackball are still positioned underneath the display. The handset is also said to integrate voice-activated search, video recording, GPS, tilt controls and stereo Bluetooth.

Both HTC and T-Mobile have not yet confirmed the details or disclosed a launch date. Google has claimed that at least 18 Android phones will arrive on the market this year.
