Samson releases R16

Samson has released the R16, a new addition to its Zoom audio capture roster. The R16 is used to record up to eight audio tracks simultaneously (16 if a second R16 is attached) while controlling the sound of each track individually. The device is portable, running on 6 AA batteries, and can take a 32GB SDHC card to help make the device lighter. The SD card also simplifies file transfers, is less susceptible to crashes and holds up to about 100 uncompressed audio tracks.

The R16 connects to a computer using a USB cable and lets owners control DAW software directly from the device.

The digital recorder features can play back up to 16 separate tracks and records at bitrates up to 24-bit/96kHz. There are 8 combination XLR-1/4-inch inputs for instruments to plug into. Over 100 studio effects are included in the package and can be used as outboard effects. Samson offers its latest Zoom through its online store for $400.
