Sirius XM iPhone App Live
Sirius XM early today launched its promised Sirius XM Premium Online app for the iPhone and iPod touch. The free software gives either of Apple's devices access to almost all of Sirius' and XM's stations as long as they have an active Internet-enabled subscription to one of the two. Songs can be tagged to buy through iTunes; channels can also be tagged as favorites or browsed while still listening to a single feed.
As with the satellite service, either service often has crossover stations from the other network. Certain stations are only available online, though Sirius XM warns that a handful of its live or premium shows won't be available through the Internet feed. This includes MLB Play-by-Play, NFL Play-by-Play, SIRIUS NASCAR and Howard Stern.
Using the iPhone app requires at least a $13 monthly subscription to Sirius or XM, which also grants access to radio outside of the portable device. Existing satellite-only users can add the Internet component for an extra $3 per month.
