Samsung Jet 2m Pre Orders
Samsung today said that it had already taken 2 million pre-orders of its Jet touchscreen phone in just the one week since it was unveiled. The tally is the first time the company has ever broken the 2 million mark in advance and is well ahead of close rival LG, which took one month to sell 2 million of its Arena phone after it went on sale. The next-closest Samsung phone was the UltraTOUCH, which cracked 1.8 million before it sold.
The handset isn't a true smartphone but is one of Samsung's highest-end devices in terms of sheer features, with an 800MHz processor, an 800x480 OLED screen, a 5-megapixel camera and 480p video capture all as selling points.
Samsung's advance orders roughly double those of Apple, which this morning said it had sold 1 million iPhone 3G S units over its launch weekend. However, Samsung achieved its record with the Jet by launching it within 50 countries this month. Apple's launch weekend only opened sales in eight countries and will gradually roll out with more countries this week and virtually all of its existing country list covered by August. It also doesn't currently sell iPhones to key markets like China or Korea.

not a true smartphone?

Can you clarify, 'not a true smartphone'? Can a non-true smartphone competing for the same user base as iPhone and Pre?
