WD 2TB Caviar Black Leaks

Western Digital has already tipped its hand as to a capacity boost for its Caviar Black line with promo material from Japan. Local retailer SofMap has been given personal cleaning kits that indicate a 2TB Caviar Black is due in the near future and would be the first mainstream hard drive to come with 64MB of cache to speed up disk access. To date, the performance-oriented models have been limited to 1TB of space and 32MB of cache; Western Digital already offers a 2TB Caviar Green but, until now, hasn't had the option of a full-speed drive.

Little else has been revealed about the faster 2TB drive other than that it should occupy a typical 3.5-inch drive bay and connect through SATA II. Launch information also wasn't mentioned in the promo. The appearance of the marketing material implies that an actual release is relatively close by. [via Impress]

    The Japanese writing says

Coming in summer 2009, so it could be now or in a couple of months. Could even be longer before it gets to the US. Can't wait till they figure out how to get a 1TB 7200 RPM laptop hard drive made.

"WD leaks 2TB Caviar". Makes them sound like a sturgeon. Having said, 2TB. Wholly sheet!

    personal cleaning kits

"personal cleaning kits", is that what we call a package of tissues these days?

Highly appropriate for what most people will collect on their 2TB drive.
