YouTube video surge

Mobile YouTube uploads have shot up dramatically with the release of the iPhone 3G S, Google claims. Whereas uploads have grown approximately 1,700 percent in past the six months, Google notes that figures rose 400 percent daily on June 19th, when the 3G S was launched in eight countries. The 3G S is the only iPhone capable of video recording, and is able to upload directly to YouTube. Apple and Google maintain a close corporate partnership.

Files can be delivered using either a Wi-Fi or 3G connection. Google acknowledges that many of the clips so far are simply test videos, demonstrating the technology rather than making any practical application. The company is in fact encouraging users to share test clips through social networking sites, with the hope of inserting some of them into a special Spotlight Video. Participants must tag files with the word "mobiletest," and send a Twitter message to Google with "mobiletest," "@YouTube" and the video link in the body.

    Come on...

This is clearly faked... the "Uploaded by iPhone" badge on YouTube is not there...

    I knew the youtube surge

would be enormous as soon as I saw the ease of use to film and upload. This is just the tip of the iceberg for iPhone video recording.

Everyone keeps talking about the Nokia N97 with its famous Zeiss lens and 5MP of glory, but I knew it didn't mean anything when it comes to the sheer joy of using the iPhone video recording features. Nokia put a lot of decent hardware into the N97 and it's a fine handset, but it'll never get the use the iPhone gets.

Whenever videoconferencing comes to the iPhone, it'll be like no handset ever had videoconferencing before because everyone with an iPhone will be using it to choke AT&T network to death.

iPhone-haters just don't get it. It's not about having the best hardware, it's about the ease of use and the iPhone is the master of that.

    Solid state...

Since the phone is solid state, it would likely remain functional at least for a while before the battery overheated, or corrosion caused electrical failure. Turn phone off, put in cool dry area for 24-48 hours.

I got my razr wet in pouring rain, i turned it off for a few days. Still works 3 years later.

    Wow!

A surge in uploads of stupid and inane videos to YouTube!

Is this a good thing or a bad thing?

    Always busting on AT&T

If the iPhone was available for verizon or sprint - exclusively, how would their network handle it? Probably not very good either.

You would also be capped on how much you could use it per day, week, month.

Apple needs to make a MiFi 2200 type device with about a 20hr battery.

Then you could watch sling player, or whatever else you wanted.

BTW - I have a MiFi2200 and it the PERFECT companion to an iPhone. We dont have 3G in Iowa City, IA. Home of the University of Iowa. That is a crime in my opinion.
