AgfaPhoto rugged camera
AgfaPhoto on Monday unveiled its new 6-megapixel DC-600uw point and shoot camera. The entry is one of the company's few rugged models and is rated to withstand submersion in water up to 33 feet deep. Other than to resistance to water, the DC-600uw can also withstand shock from drops as well as dust and dirt.
The compact is friendly YouTube and similar video hosting sites and produces videos that are scaled for quicker uploads. There is 32MB of internal memory, with half of that dedicated for storage, while an SDHC memory card can hold up to 8GB.Users frame their photos through a 2.4-inch LCD display, and there is a face recognition focusing function. In the name of both economy and durability, though, AgfaPhoto limits the camera to digital zoom while its light sensitivity goes up to ISO 1,600.
Instead of a proprietary battery, the DC-600uw is powered by two included AA batteries. It ships to Europe now in blue for 149 Euros ($209); colors other than blue will become available in July. Plawa is selling the camera in the US for $199 [edit: was $149].

6MP?

You gotta be kidding me - 6 mega pixels? In 2009? Is this a phone camera?
With Canon and Panasonic offering rugged products with better stats, this one isn't going to move anyone.

Heh, yeah...Olympus has a full line-up of rugged "Stylus Tough" cams as well ranging from 7.1 to 12 megapixels. Although to be fair, Agfa does seem to be after the more budget minded segment with the $199 MSRP (should be less online when widely available).
