ASUS RT-N16 gigabit router
ASUS on Monday announced the upcoming release of its RT-N16 Wireless-N gigabit router, which is said to offer 300MBps maximum wireless throughput speeds. It has 128MB of onboard video memory and an advanced CPU that ASUS claims makes it eight times faster in benchmark tests than similar products. ASUS further insists the RT-N16's performance makes it ideal for smooth file transfers and downloads, video streaming, wireless gaming and VoIP calls.
Users can set up the RT-N16 to perform downloads to wireless clients without the need for a PC to be powered on. There are four gigabit Ethernet ports that allow for the creation of a wired LAN for even faster transfer speeds. Two USB ports let users transfer files onto flash drives or share peripherals in a network such as printers.
The new router also supports Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) security that streamlines creating secure wireless networks. An easier visual interface also allows users to allocate bandwidth as necessary, setup their printers and otherwise manage their networks. The router has auto-detection and network mapping capabilities as well. The integrated Download Master software supports as many as 300,000 P2P download sessions.
ASUS has not revealed the ship dates or pricing information for its new router.
