O2 confirms Samsung i7500

UK carrier O2 has become the second carrier to confirm it will be carrying what is being called the most advanced Android handset to date, the Samsung i7500 Galaxy, TechRadar reported on Monday. French wireless provider Bouygues Telecom announced back in May it will begin offering the Galaxy in July, but O2's shipments are expected to begin in August. It's not known whether O2 will be the exclusive carrier of the handset, but it will offer it subsidized with a contract only.

Pricing has not been released, however. O2 already offers the iPhone 3GS and is expected to soon offer the Palm Pre as well.

The Galaxy is one of the first non-HTC Android phones and also one of the best equipped with a 5-megapixel camera, a 3.2-inch AMOLED display, GPS, Wi-Fi and 8GB of integrated storage along with a microSD card slot. There is also a 3.5mm headphone jack, and the device will ship with Google's Android 1.5 necessary for its touchscreen keyboard. At less than 0.47 inches thin, the Galaxy will also be the thinnest Android handset to date.
