Motorola ROKR in Korea

Motorola Korea on Wednesday announced it has launched the simply titled ROKR handset, one of its only touchscreen handsets outside of the Ming and Krave lines. A new panorama user interface supports three separate screens, maximizing the amount of shortcuts users can place on the screen. The touchscreen slides up to reveal a numerical keypad for dialing numbers. As with other ROKR handsets, music is a key focus, including access to the Korea-native MelOn music service.

The 3G-capable ROKR allows for 30 hours of continuous music playback, while an external microSDHC slot users store up to 16GB of audio files. There is a 3.5mm headset jack, while stereo Bluetooth handles wireless audio. As expected, music controls are mounted externally so the handset does not need to be slid open or the touchscreen activated to navigate music.

A sound equalizer built-in, as is SRS WOW HD sound enhancement feature. Koreans who buy the ROKR before December will get free access to MelOn Free Club if they access the music service using their handset. This will allow them to download music from anywhere they have access to data networks.

The handset otherwise sports a DMB2 TV tuner for Korean over-the-air networks, a 3-megapixel camera. There is also a noise canceling feature for calls and a built-in motion sensor.

Wireless provider SK Telecom is offering the ROKR in Korea with color combinations of either black and red or blue and white. No prices have been announced, nor have any immediate plans to bring the phone to other countries.
