Mark 2 model of Vaio P due

Sony will update its VAIO P series netbook with the release of a second-generation model sometime this fall, most likely around October or November, the company recently revealed. The new model is expected to address the current version's slow boot times, which could range up to 90 seconds in the entry-level models. The news came from a Sony representative at a launch event for the VAIO NW notebook and VAIO W netbook.

No other details on the next-generation VAIO P are known, including what CPUs or other hardware are planned to be used in order to decrease the boot time or other processing functions. With the upgrades, the price of the small Sony netbook may climb even higher and leave one of the remaining points of contention with buyers. Still, Sony maintains VAIO P sales are strong in niche markets, as fashion-conscious buyers are reportedly attracted to the device's small form factor and don't seem to be concerned about its performance.
