BlackBerry to get own social network

MyBlackBerry Coming soon

RIM is developing a social network that would help surmount some of the weaknesses to its BlackBerry App World store, a late scoop suggests. Already in a dormant state, MyBlackBerry is seen by TechCrunch as catching up to the iPhone's App Store by letting the users share recommendations for apps outside of the store itself as well as other BlackBerry-related tips. The site should be device-savvy and tailor its content based on the model browsing the site.

The portal should be available tomorrow as a free extra for owners and won't be limited to the BlackBerries themselves.

App World has had a comparatively rocky development since its debut in April and has around 2,000 total apps. Its slow growth compared to Apple despite quicker sales has been blamed both on discouraging 99-cent and $1.99 apps as well as difficulty finding content through the store's usual interface. Both missing elements have been considered strengths of the iPhone's portal.

    Stupid RIM

    "discouraging 99-cent and $1.99 apps"

Yes, they "discourage" them by not permitting them. Minimum price is $2.99 (or free).

And they still haven't joined the clue-train, because it's still incredibly more difficult to use RIM's App Store vs Apple's. It's like they know they need to copy the idea, but don't want to make an exact duplicate of it, and haven't found any UI experts to help them with it.
