Guitar Hero 5 controller

This new guitar controller for the latest in the popular series will be bundled with Guitar Hero 5. The changes compared to current guitars range from subtle visual ones such as a red faceplate and white pick guard to fake chrome on the tuning pegs, to more substantial and functional ones that can’t be seen, such as a new digital touch pad. Compared to the slider of the guitar that shipped with Guitar Hero World Tour, the new one sends digital versus analog values for better accuracy and quicker response.

As Brian Bright, Project Director at Neversoft, which makes Guitar Hero, explains, there are also new reliefs on the surface of the slider and the top and bottom slider frets so users intuitively know where their fingers are placed. Color dots on the neck let users know which frets they match up with. Also, the strum bar is beefier and has a textured surface for better grip on the guitar.

Whether the new guitar controller will be sold outside of a bundle that includes the game has not yet been decided. Guitar Hero 5 ships in September. [via IGN]
