Olympus E-P1 ships
The Olympus E-P1 is now shipping to the US through Amazon. The camera avoids the common SLR profile and instead has a more retro look that resembles the former Olympus PEN cameras. Although the camera is visibly smaller than an SLR, the E-P1 features a large DSLR sensor and removable lenses. The 12-megapixel camera is the first Olympus to incorporate the Micro Four Thirds system and, unlike Panasonic's cameras using the system, does not include a electronic viewfinder above the 3-inch LCD. However, an optical add-on viewer is available.
Despite the camera's size, the E-P1 still incorporates features of better cameras, such as 720p video for up to the 2GB AVI file limit while including stereo audio. The Olympus E-P1 utilizes a TruePic V imaging processor that gives it an improved dynamic range, up to ISO 6,400 sensitivity, and allows the camera to use Olympus' Art Filters and overlaid exposures. Image stabilization and dust removal are also built-in.
The E-P1 is available from various retailers including Amazon, which lists the camera body for $750, a kit version with a 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 lens for $800, and another kit version with a fixed-zoom 17mm f/2.8 lens and a viewfinder for $900.
