Samsung preps two 52X zoom camcorders

updated 09:55 am EDT, Tue July 14, 2009

Samsung SMX-K40 and K45

Wrapping up its camera introductions today, Samsung today unveiled two particularly high-end standard-definition camcorders. The 32GB SMX-K45 and SDHC-only SMX-K40 both shoot 480p but are highlighted through their 52X stabilized zoom lenses, which by themselves can capture very distant subjects. They also have a digital zoom feature that pushes the zoom slightly further to 65X.

Either has upscaled HDMI output for raw previews, 800x600 still shooting and a design power efficient enough to charge, not just transfer videos, over USB. Samsung delivers both cameras in August and prices the K40 at $330, while adding the extra storage to the K45 raises its price to $500.
