Bang & Olufsen on Wednesday announced the upcoming release of its first alarm clock, the BeoTime, that can also control Bang & Olufsen home audio systems. The BeoTime's built-in sleep timer can switch all B&O systems in a room into standby mode after up to 120 minutes. Users can also control basic functions of a TV, A/V receiver or lights. The BeoTime has a tilt sensor that changes the orientation of the display and button functions, as it can be held in a hand and operated with a thumb or placed on its magnetic wall bracket.
The BeoTime's resemblance of a flute is no coincidence as its designer, Steffen Schmelling, used one for inspiration. The anodised and polished aluminum tube has a trumpet-shaped button on one end that pops out when the alarm goes off and turns it off when pushed back in. The opposite end houses three batteries.
Checking the time at night requires users to touch the BeoTime, with the motion sensor triggering a backlight. The BeoTime also sports three separate displays, one for the current time, another for alarm time and the third for the wake-up source (chime or audio source).
BeoTime will be available for sale this August, priced at $375.
