S Ericsson C905 W518 ATT

Sony Ericsson got a much needed expansion of its American catalog today with two additions to AT&T's phone catalog. The C905a slider has the sharpest-ever camera in the US carrier's roster at 8.1 megapixels and stands as its most advanced cameraphone as a whole, with autofocusing, GPS-based geotagging and a xenon flash giving it more professional-looking shots. It appropriately gets AT&T-native 3G data and Memory Stick Micro support up to 16GB.

The W518a appears a close cousin to the TM506 at T-Mobile and has the same extra-thin clamshell and more exotic button design. As a Walkman phone, though, it has dedicated music controls both inside and out as well as a shake-to-shuffle feature. Although it has just a number pad, AT&T envisions the new phone as a social networking tool and gives it both a feed of Facebook data on the home screen as well as a top-level option to update your status. 3G and GPS and Memory Stick Micro support are again standard on the phone, though it uses a more modest 3.2-megapixel camera.

The imaging technology of the C905a brings it to $180 on contract, while the more frugal W518a will cost $50 with similar terms. Both phones will be in stores on Sunday the 19th.
