HTC to go mainly Android

HTC is planning on increasing the use of the Android platform on its handsets to more than 50 percent in 2010, replacing Windows Mobile as the dominant OS, Taiwan's DigiTimes reported on Wednesday while referring to claimed industry sources. This is a significant increase from the current split, as HTC now offers about 30 percent of its handsets preloaded with the Google-developed, open source operating system.

The same report says HTC will launch a 3G handset that will run on the BREW mobile platform from Qualcomm that is usually found in entry-level phones. It will purportedly come with a touchscreen and run HTC's TouchFLO 3D and Sense interfaces, despite the handset lacking functions and features typically found in smartphones. The unnamed device is expected to be released in HTC's home market of Taiwan in September or October.
