Microsoft blogger Brandon LeBlanc has announced pricing information for a variety of Windows 7 upgrade options. Users upgrading from the basic Windows 7 Starter operating system to the standard Home Premium configuration will have to pay $80 for the additional functions including Aero Peek, taskbar previews and remote media streaming.
An upgrade from Home Premium to Professional carries a $90 price tag, while adding the ability to join a domain or use an XP mode. Transitioning from Home Premium to Ultimate will cost $140 and provides features such as BitLocker encryption and Language Packs.
Microsoft is set to release Windows 7 on October 22nd, while Apple expects to offer its Snow Leopard update sometime in September. The Mac OS X upgrade will be available for $29, significantly below Microsoft's pricing, while Apple's family pack can be purchased for $49.
Although Microsoft has not discounted its software as far as Apple, the company is set to offer a Windows 7 Family Pack with three licenses for $150. The package works for new installations, potentially allowing customers to upgrade a Linux-based netbook along with systems already running Vista or XP.
