Nikon S1000pj Leak

Almost immediately following a preliminary scoop earlier today, a second leak has provided details of Nikon's first ever camera to include a built-in projector. Now named the Coolpix S1000pj, the point-and-shoot camera will have a 12-megapixel camera with a 5X wide and stabilized lens in one corner but, in the middle, will have a micro projector that produces an image up to 40 inches diagonal in size without needing video output. It should also introduce a better face detection system that prioritizes faces, avoids blinks and reduces blemishes in skin.

The Australian-sourced leak has the S1000pj shipping at an unknown point in time for the equivalent of $588.

At the same time, three other Coolpix compacts have also been shown and are likely to be unveiled at the same time. The S70 will partly resemble the S1000pj but, while dropping the projector, will gain a very large 3.5-inch OLED touchscreen that provides a more accurate reproduction of the final image. Aside from allowing a tap-to-autofocus system, it will also have the option to trigger the camera just through the focus tap and to control settings like brightness or the strength of the scene auto-adjustment. It too should have a 5X stabilized lens but will sell for $504.

Two conventional cameras should complete the line. The S640 similarly shoots at 12 megapixels and has the same lensing as the S1000pj but in a conventional form factor. It will emphasize speed with an 0.7-second startup time. A close relative, the S570, shoots at the same resolution but drops the wide angle and image stabilization. These will ship for approximately $420 and $294.

US information isn't available, but the cameras are all likely to sell at lower prices in the country.
