Sony PRS 300 Price Leak

Sony's upcoming PRS-300 and PRS-600 e-book readers could come in at prices well under existing models when they launch thanks to briefly available store listings at J&R (PRS-300, PRS-600). While even the base PRS-505 right now sells for $280, the 5-inch PRS-300 should sell for $200 and the touchscreen PRS-300 for $300, itself a significant price cut.

Notably, Sony's online store for the US has already stopped selling the PRS-700, which the PRS-600 is expected to replace.

The PRS-300 should be Sony's entry level device with an 800x600 image, directional pad input, 512MB of onboard memory (440MB free) and about 7,500 page turns on a battery charge. The PRS-600 would have similar specs but, using a larger 6-inch touch display, would let readers add notes or highlight text for later reference. It should also have a version of the Oxford Dictionary.

When either reader ships is an unknown, but the retail listings hint at a near-term introduction. [via Sony Insider]
