Dell Precisions get M7740

Chipmaker AMD has announced that its ATI FirePro M7740 GPU will find its way into Dell's Precision M6400 series of notebooks. The chipset provides 1GB of DDR5 memory, along with 30-bit DisplayPort and dual-link DVI output. It is aimed mainly at graphics professionals, such as CAD users.

The hardware is based on a scalable ultra-parallel processing architecture, supporting up to 800 unified shaders. Samples of M6400s with the M7740 are being shown at SIGGRAPH 2009, which opens today and runs until Thursday, August 6th. The public will be able to buy the updated PCs later in August, but pricing for systems so equipped has not been revealed.
