Audio Technica new mics

Audio-Technica on Wednesday debuted 11 new ATR series microphones designed for home recordings, live performances, computers or camcorders. Products include the ATR1500, ATR1300, ATR1200 and ATR1100 vocal/instrument mics; the ATR6550, ATR6250, ATR4697 and ATR2250 specialty mics; the ATR4700 and ATR4600 computer mics; and the ATR5200 headset mic.

The ATR1500 dynamic mic is geared for live performances with vocals or instruments. The cardioid response pattern reduces pickup from sounds located to the sides and rear, improving isolation of the source while helping protect against feedback. The mic also features metal construction and ships with a detachable 15-foot XLR cable and stand clamp.

The ATR1300 offers a unidirectional pickup pattern, on/off switch, 16.5-foot detachable XLR cable and a stand clamp. The cardioid-pattern ATR1200 and unidirectional ATR1100 both provide a 3.5mm mini-plug and a 1/4-inch adapter.

The company's ATR6550 condenser shotgun mic and ATR6250 stereo condenser mic are both geared for video recording. The ATR6550 features a directional "Tele" range setting that works to pick up noise from a distance, while helping reduce ambient noise.

The ATR4697 condenser boundary microphone features a 360-degree pickup pattern, enabling placement on a desk for recording meetings or teleconferences. The ATR4700 and ATR4600 are both designed for podcasting, with flexible goosenecks and 3.5mm mini-plugs.

For hands-free gaming or recording, the ATR5200 mic is supported by the user's head. The ATR3350 miniature lavalier mic clips directly onto the wearer's clothing and is designed for accurate and intelligible voice reproduction.

All of the ATR series microphones are now available from suppliers. The ATR1500 and ATR1300 carry respective prices of $50 and $30, while the ATR1200 can be purchased for $20 and the ATR1100 costs $10. The ATR6550 and ATR6250 retail for $100 and $70, respectively. The ATR4697, ATR4700 and TAR4600 can be purchased for respective prices of $40, $13 and $8. The ATR5200 carries a price of $50, while the ATR3350 is priced at $40.
