Wi-Fi suit targets Apple

A business based in Austin, Texas has filed a new lawsuit through a US District Court, targeting Apple, Sony and Nintendo. Bandspeed accuses the three other companies of violating its Wi-Fi patents, specifically a pair related to choosing a Wi-Fi channel according to signal strength. These are titled Approach for selecting communications channels based on performance, and Approach for managing communications channels based on performance.

The suit makes particular reference to the Apple iPhone 3GS, the Nintendo Wii and the Sony PlayStation 3 as infringing products. Bandspeed is calling for a permanent injunction against future infringements, as well as unspecified damages. Most such lawsuits are, however, settled out of court.

    Do all patent holders

live in Austin, TX? Or is this the place where the patent holders go for lawsuits. Seems like most of these patents are given out without merit. I believe the courts should throw out such lawsuits and penalize the patent holders so that they will stop going to court on flimsy grounds. In the first place such patents should be filtered and closed.

    Strange...

These patent suits are filed by companies that no one even knew existed until they filed the suit. That speaks volumes about their motives and business model.

    Yes Austin is often used

by people bringing legal cases, something about how easy it is or something.
