Xbox 360 Pro price cut

A leaked image of an ad from a Meijer catalog reveals that Microsoft will indeed, as previously rumored, axe the Xbox Pro model from its lineup. In its place, the top-rung Elite model will get a price drop to just $300. This is also due to take place on August 30th, which is expected to be the date of the Pro's demise.

Despite the Pro's status as the best selling Xbox console, distributing the Elite at the Pro's old price-point is expected to achieve even better sales. Starting in September, Microsoft will offer only the sub-$200 Arcade model, which lacks a hard drive, and the 120GB Elite. The move is most likely due to the upcoming slim PS3 release and the increasing trend of downloading content, which requires users to up their storage space.

Microsoft has not made an official comment regarding the matter, but is expected to do so next week at GameCon. [via Kotaku]
