Apple event slated for Sept. 9, no tablet?

Apple Event Sept 9 Rumor

Apple's rumored music event for September has been narrowed down to Wednesday the 9th, a source close to the company says. True to the company's past practices, the event is likely to be held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco and should focus on both Apple's now habitual iPod upgrades as well as a new version of iTunes that the All Things D tipster says may involve a "social element" like the Facebook, Last.fm and Twitter integration recently mentioned in a photo leak.

The contact is also adamant there will be no mention of a tablet-sized device rumored by some outlets. More historically reliable sources have put the product on track for early 2010. Historically, Apple has never used its music events to introduce hardware that wasn't directly related to music.

Given likely real product shots as well as pre-release cases and other rumors, it's expected that the event will bring a third-generation iPod touch with a built-in camera for photo and video capture, likely also including a microphone. A fifth-generation iPod nano hasn't been seen in person but should have a camera for at least still images. Besides social networking, as yet uncorroborated rumors have also pointed to possible Blu-ray support that would also make iTunes a central hub for playing disc-based movies as well as downloaded videos.

    Please...

Can we have a larger iPod Classic... 160GB is simply not enough.

    And ...

... can we please have a smaller iPod Shuffle? My fingers are still able to operate the controls on the current one.

While you're at it, how about a column of LEDs so that when I wave it in the air I can read the song title and artist via persistence of vision? Heck, why stop there - why not build a whole menu system around such a display?

    Since when did Apple

ever say it was coming out with a tablet? So now if there is no tablet, people are going to be disappointed after they worked themselves up in a frenzy over some bloggers' articles. Who'll be the first idiot to stand up during the keynote and ask when the tablet is going to be announced? Toss the fool out.

Apple didn't announce anything. In fact, they have a unique approach to product announcements. They keep everything a secret, and then have a huge product launch event. On the positive side, this builds a lot of hype surrounding their products. On the negative side, this results in people trying to guess what's being revealed next, and they are let down when it doesn't happen. They have to take the bad with the good!

If they don't want people speculating and being disappointed, they could take a different approach, but then they'd lose some of the hype. Trade off. They can deal with it.

    no tablet?

So they're still not sure whether there will be a tablet or not. So why are they even reporting this?

Should we also stick on there "No Unicorns?"

    Coincidence?

Has anyone noticed that the Beatles remastered CD's and Beatles Rock Band are being released on 9 September as well?

    tablet

this weekend, 40,000 students returned to the campus where I work. They have already made their technology purchases for the fall semester. So, in that way, Apple has already missed the boat. Given that, why would Apple be rushing a tablet to market. I will be surprised (but not disappointed) if a tablet is announced at this event. Next logical timeframe would be closer to holiday gift giving time.
