Apple Event Sept 9 Rumor
Apple's rumored music event for September has been narrowed down to Wednesday the 9th, a source close to the company says. True to the company's past practices, the event is likely to be held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco and should focus on both Apple's now habitual iPod upgrades as well as a new version of iTunes that the All Things D tipster says may involve a "social element" like the Facebook, Last.fm and Twitter integration recently mentioned in a photo leak.
The contact is also adamant there will be no mention of a tablet-sized device rumored by some outlets. More historically reliable sources have put the product on track for early 2010. Historically, Apple has never used its music events to introduce hardware that wasn't directly related to music.
Given likely real product shots as well as pre-release cases and other rumors, it's expected that the event will bring a third-generation iPod touch with a built-in camera for photo and video capture, likely also including a microphone. A fifth-generation iPod nano hasn't been seen in person but should have a camera for at least still images. Besides social networking, as yet uncorroborated rumors have also pointed to possible Blu-ray support that would also make iTunes a central hub for playing disc-based movies as well as downloaded videos.
