Toshiba TG02 confirmed

The successor to Toshiba's 1GHz TG01, the TG02, has once again made the news, with a certification document (PDF) from the Wi-Fi Alliance website. While many details aren't available, it's believed the TG02 will retain the TG01's touchscreen candybar form factor, as revealed by leaked photos earlier this year. These also had it keeping the same 4.1-inch touchscreen, 3G, GPS and Wi-Fi of the older phone but with Windows Mobile 6.5.

An FCC approval with the TG02's code name, TM5-E01, also suggested the candybar form factor.

However, a Tweakers.net report with a page of purported specifications for the TG02 suggests the device is a clamshell, as it has specs for both a 3-inch, 800x480 resolution LCD touchscreen and a 0.8-inch external OLED screen. No images have surfaced of this handset.

An official release date from Toshiba is still unknown, but likely due soon, as the device is expected to reach users before the end of the year. [via Unwired View]
