NetGear on Tuesday announced it is now shipping its RangeMax dual band 802.11 Wi-Fi router, the WNDR3700. The device earns its title through eight internal antennas that provide increased range and potentially better speeds: it supposedly handles as much as 350Mbps in real-world conditions. It's also the first NetGear product with its own broadband usage meter to track consumption across the entire network when using providers with low bandwidth caps, like Rogers or Time Warner Cable.
Dual band support means users can wirelessly send data over the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequency bands at the same time. The router also contains . The gigabit Ethernet ports can transfer between WAN and LAN at up to 500Mbps.
Support exists for USB drives formatted to several file systems, including over the network, and users have remote access to HTTP and FTP sites. It's also DLNA compatible, allowing it to stream media to home theater devices as well as supporting gaming consoles like the PS3.
The WNDR3700 is priced at $190 in the US.
