Microsoft on Xbox Elite ads

Microsoft today provided an unusual response to apparent leaks of a $400, 250GB Xbox 360 Elite gaming console on multiple retailers. When queried about the system by CNET, a Microsoft representative neither confirmed nor denied the existence of the system, saying only that the company has made "no such announcement." Such a response doesn't necessarily confirm the console but is uncharacteristic for a company that has flatly denied Blu-ray drive rumors in the past.

It's suspected the 250GB model is under development both to secure more lucrative sales of high-end Xboxes as well as to thwart the likely 250GB PS3. Services like the Xbox Video Marketplace and Games On Demand are expected to push a demand for larger hard drives on the Xbox 360 as each download can consume several gigabytes.

Has MS and Sony not learned that folks only want a single SKU? Right now Sony has one SKU - the 120GB model and MS has two - the Arcade and Elite Models. Now both companies want to add more models ... why confuse the customer base?

If the same consumer can go out and buy a car, with the numerous brands, models, and options, I'm pretty sure they can handle 3 models of a gaming platform. It's not rocket science. Apple has multiple models of the macbook. If we live in a world where three models causes confusion, I'm more worried about these consumers starving to death.. how they h*** are they going to decide what to eat for lunch?

Not everyone has the same needs and requirements. If all xboxs game with a 250 gig drive, it would not be affordable to many. If it only came with a smaller drive, it would not be as attractive to many.

    It's pretty logical.
