Toshiba intros 64GB portable drive

Toshiba recently added a new, 640GB capacity model to its Portable External Drive range. The drive weighs just six ounces, adding to its portability. Users also don't need to carry around AC power supplies, as the device gets its power and transfers data over a USB 2.0 connection. There is an 8MB buffer, and users can create password-protected folders on the drive.

The new capacity joins the already available 320GB and 500GB portable drives from Toshiba. Toshiba has incorporated features that help protect data from getting lost as a result of physical damage on the disc itself by anchoring the drive in place and limited how much shock is transmitted to it.

The announcement follows the release of a 640GB internal drive for notebook PCs earlier this week.

The new portable drive from Toshiba is compatible with both Windows and Mac operating systems. Priced at $180, the new Toshiba 640GB portable hard drive can be had in blue, white, red and green.
