Sony BRAVIA ZX5 in Japan

Choosing an uncharacteristic Monday launch date, Sony today launched the BRAVIA ZX5. The line brings wireless TV and uses the 60GHz Wireless HD format to pipe content from a separate TV Station hub to the set itself without wires. As they use ultra-wideband, the new sets are far more efficient than the ZX1 and can handle up to 1080p video at 60 frames per second over the wireless link instead of the older series' 1080i picture.

Either sit at the top end of the TV spectrum outside of the transfer technology and have 240Hz, LED-backlit panels. Virtually all of the physical input is built into the TV Station and includes four HDMI, two D5 (component equivalent) and RCA jacks, as well as one each of S-Video and VGA. An Ethernet jack is built-in and handles both DLNA media sharing on the local network as well as direct-to-TV Internet video streaming.

ZX5 examples will ship in 46- and 52-inch versions at first, and they should reach Japan by November 20th for an unofficially predicted equivalent of $4,937 for the smaller model and $5,581 for the top version. A US release is likely but hasn't been discussed. [via Impress]
