QNAP NAS servers get 8TB capacity, hot swap bays

QNAP recently announced it has added two new Turbo NAS servers to its extensive lineup, including the TS-419P for desktops and the rack-mounted TS-419U. Their specs are nearly identical, including the same Marvell 1.2GHz processor, 512MB of DDR2 RAM and support for up to 8TB. Either can hold both 2.5- and 3.5-inch hard drives in four hot-swappable bays. Storage expansion is made possible thanks to four USB ports and two eSATA ports.

Either can be configured in RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 5+ spare or JBOD (just a bunch of disks) configurations with online RAID capacity expansion and online RAID level migration. There is also support for iSCSI Target service, dual gigabit Ethernet ports with port trunking and multi-IP settings.

Operating system support includes Windows, Mac, Linux and UNIX networks, while the integrated UPnP/DLNA media server compatibility allows users to stream multimedia content to their DLNA-certified home theater components that can include Sony's PS3 and Microsoft's Xbox 360 gaming console. Users can also download files from BitTorrent, FTP, and HTTP sites remotely over the network using the new QNAP NAS servers thanks to the built-in QGet utility.

The TS-419U has identical capabilities, but is packaged in a 1U rack-mount for business uses. The TS-419P and TS-419U are now available at Amazon, priced at $599 and $799, respectively.
