Canon invites press to product launch

A variety of web reports suggest Canon Sweden has begun sending out press invitations regarding a secret product launch. In the short and secretive message, Canon promises that it will announce "one of the biggest and most important releases in the history of the company." The two-hour lunchtime event is scheduled for September 29th, and it's widely expected that the product in question is Canon's upcoming 1D Mark IV digital SLR.

The Mark IV is rumored to get a 1.3x crop sensor capable of 16-megapixel resolution, while 8-megapixel stills captured in sRAW1 format are said to be more detailed than those shot with the Mark III. Burst shooting and high-ISO images are also reported to show improvement.

Speaking at the upcoming event will be Canon Sweden CEO Jouko Tuominen, along with marketing and trend analyst Magnus Lindkvist. Rumors earlier in the year suggested the company would be ready to launch the 1D Mark IV sometime late in the summer.
