First 45nm X4 offerings to hit budget prices

AMD has introduced several new processors, the Athlon II X4 620 and 630, that have been added to the company's 'mainstream' desktop platform. The 620 component represents AMD's first quad-core processor to ship for less than $100, while still integrating the latest 45nm process architecture.

The platform consists of the Athlon II X4 processors paired with the company's 785G chipset. Graphics are provided by integrated ATI Radeon HD 4200 components with ATI Stream technology claimed to improve conversion time for HD video.

The 620 model offers 2.6GHz core speed, while the 630 variant bumps up to 2.8GHz. Otherwise, the components match many of the same specs as AMD's dual-core Athlon X2, including 2MB of L2 cache and support for DDR2 or DDR3 memory modules.

AMD has yet to announce specific pricing information or launch dates for the Athlon II X4 620 and 630 CPUs.
