RAIDDrives offer 4GBps bandwidth speeds

Super Talent on Wednesday announced the upcoming release of its new RAIDDrive series of multi-disk solid state drives. Available in three distinct families, all RAIDDrives push 4GBps bandwidth and have 1.4GBps sequential transfer speeds thanks to their sitting in a PCI Express card slot instead of on the SATA bus. Write speeds top out at 1.2GBps, and the entire array has 1GB of cache to streamline traffic.

The RAIDDrive Enterprise Servers (ES) line is optimized for use in corporate servers, with mounts for 3U racks. They can ship in RAID 0 or RAID 5 configurations and are meant for particularly data-intensive tasks like virtualization. There is a battery backup to prevent data loss. The RAIDDrive ES series can be had with less dense but longer-lasting and faster single-level cell (SLC) memory in capacities between 256GB and 1TB.

The RAIDDrive Workstation (WS) series is made for audiovisual editing, CAD, science and similar content creation tasks. It can be had preconfigured as RAID 0 stripe or in RAID 5, and uses the same SLC flash as the ES drives in up to 1TB capacities.

The RAIDDrive GS, for Gamers and Enthusiasts, is meant for non-business users who want to up their system performance, and can be preconfigured in RAID 0 or RAID 5. Unlike the other two series of RAIDDrives, it uses less expensive multi-level cell (MLC) flash and is available in capacities up to 2TB.

RAIDDrive SSDs begin shipping to OEM manufacturers in October, with the 1TB RAIDDrive GS priced at $4,999.
