Amazon outs own product brand, AmazonBasics

Amazon on Sunday announced the launch of its own brand of products, called AmazonBasics, which thus far includes AV cables and blank DVD media, but will expand soon with more basic consumer electronics with budget pricing. There is no word on what upcoming accessories AmazonBasics will offer, but the company is listening to customer feedback to help it make its decisions.

The products thus far range from a $3.41 USB extension cable to a $40.18 HDMI cable, while a 50-count of blank dual-layer DVDs costs $35.05. Single layer DVDs in a 100-count package cost $19.66, while 100 CDs costs $20.48. All AmazonBasics products will also be packaged in the company's self-developed easy to open boxes.

Amazon's new products are its first self-branded products outside of its Kindle e-book readers and suggest the company is increasingly opting to make its own products rather than concede sales to third parties.
