MSI X610 uses low-power AMD CPU

MSI on Monday announced the upcoming release of the X-Slim X610 ultrathin notebook, an AMD-powered version of its currently available X600. The same 15.6-inch, 1366x768 resolution screen is used, though the Intel Core 2 CPU and related mainboard are replaced with AMD's Congo platform with an Athlon Neo processor. Other specs are shared, including the 1-inch thickness, 4.6lb weight and standard six-cell battery.

The same focus is placed on energy efficiency, with the processor using only 15W of power, or 60 percent less than conventional notebook CPUs. MSI integrates its ECO power-saving feature into the notebook, letting users choose from game, movie, presentation, word processing and turbo modes.

Graphics processing is handled by ATI's Mobility Radeon HD 4330 3D discrete graphic chipset that brings 512MB of dedicated memory. Entertainment is otherwise offered up by the four 2nd-generation Dolby-certified speakers and the optional Blu-ray drive and HDMI output.

Hard drives can be ordered in 320GB, 500GB or 640GB capacities, all with Windows Vista Home Premium, while 2GB of RAM is standard with 4GB optional. Wi-Fi communications is standard, and Bluetooth is an option. For video chats, a 1.3-megapixel webcam is integrated.

MSI has not released ship dates or pricing information for the X610.
