mBook M2 UMPC packs 1.6GHz Atom, Windows 7

Korea's UMID will soon release the successor to its mBook M1 UMPC simply known as the mBook M2. Changes include a new exterior with a wider opening angle, a conventional USB port instead of needing a dongle, and a new VGA video output. There is also a new optical mouse integrated into the screen frame, while RAM has been doubled to 1GB. Processors are also different, with the standard 1.2GHz Intel Atom slightly slower than the outgoing model's 1.33GHz Atom, while the optional CPU is faster, at 1.6GHz.

Windows 7 will replace XP Home when it launches, and storage comes in the same capacity 16GB or 32GB solid state drives. A new 8GB model will also be introduced, helping to keep the entry level model's price down. A microSD card slot is retained as is a 3G SIM card slot for wireless communications.

Otherwise, there is the same 4.8-inch display with a 1024x600 resolution, and the keyboard is also carried over. A 1.3-megapixel camera is again part of the specs.

The mBook M2 will be out sometime in October, most likely right on or just after the October 22nd Windows 7 release, with prices starting at $499, or about $100 less than the original mBook M1. [via JKKMobile]
