Palm Pre down to $100 at Amazon

The Palm Pre smartphone is now being offered for $100, its lowest price thus far. The device launched at $199 on a two-year contract from wireless provider Sprint, with Amazon now selling the handset on its site for the record-low price. As always, to qualify for the $100 price, a new two-year contract from Sprint is required.

Amazon also sells the Pre contract-free, for $500. The Pre was also recently reduced to $150. It's unknown if the price drop is specific to Amazon or will come to other retailers. This would make it more competitive against the $99 iPhone 3G offered through AT&T. Both have 8GB of internal storage capacity, GPS sensors as well as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections, though the Pre has both a hardware QWERTY keyboard and a touchscreen.
