Nikon D3s due Oct 15, to bring HD video

Nikon should upgrade its full pro DSLR with the D3s in less than a month based on clues left by itself and outsiders. A French copy of the company's itinerary (PDF) for the Paris Expo on October 15th refers to the launch of a "nouveau reflex Expert produit Nikon," or a new pro DSLR product. The date coincides with reports of a D3s appearing at the same date and is unlikely to be a recap of the semi-pro D300s and amateur D3000.

The memo doesn't detail the full-frame camera, but a potentially authoritative leak of specs suggests it will still shoot at 12 megapixels but through an improved sensor will bring the HD movie mode present on nearly all Nikons as well as much improved sensitivity. Whether video recording will go beyond 720p isn't clear, but Nikon Rumors claims it will run at the same 24 frames per second. Light reception, however, should jump to a very high ISO 102,400, or four times the existing 25,600. It's probable the maximum ISO will only be a manual, emergency-only setting, but it's unknown if lower levels will produce less noise.

The D3s will also likely be backed by two or more new lenses, including a new ultra-wide angle 16-35mm f4 ED VR lens and a 100-500mm f4-5.6 ED VR for telephoto distances.

This site's use of Bing disappoints me. I won't be visiting for a while.

Agreed. I think it's becoming more and more evident that MacNN is on Microsoft payroll .... first it's all the "hands-on" reviews of the Zune ... and then "How good Bing is" and all that .... MacNN is gonna go down, just like MacWeek. The ever powerful Microsoft slush-fund is very hard to resist.
