Sony shows custom 56-inch, 4K monitor
Sony at CEATEC is showing one of its most advanced displays to date. The 56-inch TRIMASTER SRM-L560 monitor has a near-4K resolution, which translates to 3840x2160 pixels or four times the resolution of 1080p. Despite this, the LED backlit TV has a 176-degree viewing angle from all sides and is meant to be a color-accurate preview for video pros and others who need large screens.
Supporting this, the backlight RGB sensor works together with an internal temperature sensor to detect and compensate for uneven brightness as the display gets older. Using a connected Windows PC and the included SRM Manager software, users can adjust color temperature and gamma settings; other platforms should have the option of using software.
Users can also split up the display into four segments, each with full 1080p resolution, or else into two 2048x1080 halves for the sake of workflow. DVI, HDMI and VGA supply video inputs, but Sony is offering adapters for HD-SDI and SD-SDI more commonly found in the video editing world. Ethernet for remote control, as well as a USB port, are likewise built-in.
The set will be made to order starting November 1st, priced at the equivalent of nearly $7,700 in Japan. Sony hasn't clarified if or when it will port the display to the US. [via Impress]

$7,700 would be a steal for that kind of size and resolution.
