Toshiba smartphones show up in the flesh

Toshiba is showing off what appear to be nearly production-ready versions of its future touchscreen smartphones at the CEATEC show in Japan, according to a recent WMPowerUSer report. The company first talked about the devices earlier this year, but this is the first time production ready devices were spotted, suggesting they are nearing release, as promised.

The K01 is a QWERTY slider that sports a 4.1-inch capacitive touchscreen and is just 0.6 inches thick. The Toshiba K02 is a clamshell with a 3.5-inch resistive touchscreen with an 800x480 resolution. There is also an external screen and a 10-button keyboard.

The 7-inch Toshiba L01 resembles a mobile internet device rather than a smartphone. Its 800x480 screen can also double as a digital photo frame.

All three of the devices are powered by Windows Mobile 6.5. The K01 is due for a 2009 release, while the K02 will arrive early in 2010. The L01 should also be out before year's end. [Images via Akihabara]
