Palm Pre headed for Mexico's Telcel with memory slot?

Video hints at unique hardware

Several videos have surfaced that claim a revised Palm Pre may be heading to Mexico's Telcel carrier, allegedly with the addition of a MicroSD card slot. The videos, originating from the Mexican site Matuk, contain a preview of the Pre sporting a Telcel icon. The person in the video makes a reference to a memory card slot.

Along with the verbal suggestion, the first video shows the host walking down the street holding a Pre with the back removed (around 1:37). Initial teardown pictures of the US Pre show a solid black surface below the battery. The leaked video, however, shows several diagrams that apparently indicate the orientation and direction a memory card should be inserted.

The Telcel Pre appears to have a white rectangle toward the side of the device, with a chamfer on on the corner similar to a memory card. The size, however, is closer to a standard SD card. Considering the location of the chamfer, an SD or microSD card would have to be placed upside down with the contacts exposed. The YouTube-quality video makes it hard to determine details, although the contacts are clearly not visible if the white area is an inserted SD card.

The YouTube content cannot be considered conclusive evidence of a Pre equipped with a memory card slot. Both videos were quickly removed by Matuk, however, which typically suggests direct intervention by the company. The site apologizes to readers for removing the content, while claiming the videos had not yet received "permission to be shown." The embedded videos located below were re-submitted by YouTube member leomtxwebmaster. [via Engadget]
