PictureMate Charm printer has highest resolution

Epson this morning introduced its PictureMate Charm photo printer. The portable printer can produce 4- by 6-inch full color prints and has a 2.5-inch LCD screen as well as a memory card reader that lets user print photos without a PC. It can produce a borderless color photo in just 37 seconds, and gives users the option of producing black and white photos as well as changing the layout options.

Epson also claims the PictureMate Charm has the best print resolution in its class, at 5760x1440dpi. There is an Auto Photo Correction feature that will adjust digital photos from optimum color and balance and the Charm will automatically remove red eyes. Users also have the option of printing all images from a specific date, all photos on a memory card or a selected range of photos.

Depending on the type of photo paper and ink toner users opt for, each photo can be printed for as low as $0.26. An optional Bluetooth adapter lets users print straight from their Bluetooth compatible cellphones and other devices, and wireless printing through the PictBridge standard is also supported.

The printer is both Windows and Mac compatible. Epson will release the PictureMate Charm in November and price it at $150.
