Acer outs touchscreen Aspire, dual-core Timeline notebooks

Acer intros Windows 7 touchscreen Aspire, more

Acer on Wednesday announced it will soon launch a number of new Windows 7 powered PCs, including its first multi-touch notebook, the 15.6-inch Aspire AS5738PG notebook. At the same time, Acer updated its Timeline series of Aspire notebooks with dual-core CULV processors and the new Microsoft OS.

Besides having a display that supports Windows' new touch features, the AS5738PG will be powered by Intel's 2.2GHz Core 2 Duo CPU, 4GB of RAM and a 320GB hard drive. Graphics processing is handled by ATI's Radeon HD 4570 with 512MB of its own memory. An HDMI port is included, along with four USB ports. There is also a webcam, two speakers with Dolby compatibility and an 8x DVD drive. The system weighs just over 6lbs with its six-cell battery.

The newly updated Timeline Aspires include the 11.6-inch AS1810T-8679, which will ship with a new-generation 1.3GHz Intel Core 2 Duo CPU and Intel's 4500MHD integrated graphics. It too has 4GB of RAM and a 320GB hard drive. A webcam, multi card reader, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and HDMI are all built-in, but its size dictates three USB ports. With a six-cell battery, the notebook weighs just over 3lbs. Though its display its conventional, it supports multi-touch on the trackpad.

The Aspire Timeline AS3810T-8737 bumps up screen size to 13.3 inches but otherwise keeps the same resolution. Other specs remain the same as the model above, but a 500GB drive and a higher resolution webcam are included. The weight is slightly higher, at 3.5lbs. The AS4810TZ-4508 has a 14-inch display and similar specifications except for its 320GB hard drive and a heavier 4.4-pound chassis.

The AS5810TZ-4784 gets a 15.6-inch screen with the same LED backlight and 1366x768 resolution, and gets a fourth USB port along with the same specs as the other Timelines. Weight is fixed at 5.3lbs.

The Acer Aspire 5738PG in blue only is due out on October 22nd, to coincide with the official release of Windows 7, and will be priced at $800. All new Aspire notebooks will ship with Windows 7 Home Premium. The AS1810T-8679 will cost $600 and the AS3810T-8737 $800, while both the AS4810TZ-4508 and AS5810TZ-4784 will be priced at $650.
