Google's front-lawn Android gets newest dessert
Google staffers have posted a video on YouTube (available below) that shows the delivery of a giant éclair to the company's California headquarters' front lawn, indicating the latest Android 2.0 update will be going live soon. The oversized éclair now sits beside other blown-up desserts, including a cupcake and donut that represent earlier updates to the open-source operating system, namely Android 1.5 and 1.6, respectively.
Google has used pastry as codenames for the various updates to its open-source Android operating system in the past and nicknamed elements of Android 1.5 as Cupcake and 1.6 as Donut. Motorola's upcoming Droid is believed to be the first handset to ship with Android 2.0.
Eclair is rumored to bring multi-touch support to touchscreen Android handsets, and at least one report says there is a YouTube widget on the home screen. Other improvements are unknown, though are expected.
The Motorola Droid may be unveiled for Verizon later this month. [via TechCrunch]
