Dell Streak MID will support multi-touch
Dell's rumored media tablet has been confirmed today by a leak from Vietnamese source Tinhte. To be called the Streak, the device will be almost exclusively controlled by a 5-inch, 800x480 capacitive touchscreen and should not only use Android 2.0 but support multi-touch gestures, including pinch to zoom. It should have 3G onboard and will even support calls, though the size means this will be a secondary role.
The Streak should also have Bluetooth and Wi-Fi for shorter-range wireless and will also have a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash as well as a microSDHC slot for storage. A large-capacity 1,500mAh battery should give it practical battery life, though this hasn't been tested.
Dell's choice of processor isn't mentioned, but the original rumor gave the tablet an Atom processor rather than the ARM chips more commonly used with Android devices.
If the Streak reaches production, the same rumor would have it ship in early 2010 and may incorporate an experimental business model that gives the device away for free in return for a subscription to a media provider. [via Engadget]

Huh?

With a 800x480 5" screen, this isn't a "Tablet PC", it's an Archos! It is sad that a company that has proven capable of creating attractive hardware in the form of the Adamo, continues to drop turds that, thankfully, appear to fall between the cracks of every market segment as they attempt to be all things to all people. Does this thing have a bottle opener?

That is too small to be called a tablet. Dell continues to make serious strategic mistakes. I think they might need a significant management shakeup to save the company, otherwise they will continue to slide downward in market share and eventually be sold off in parts to the highest bidder.

Not happy about that Atom processor...

I'm really puzzled about the mobile industry recently. I continue to hear people saying that tablets are a waste of time and they're going to fail again to capture the minds and hearts of users. It sure seems to be that an awful lot of tablets and particularly eReaders are being built and being unleashed on the public. I personally think they'd be great to use. This Streak looks darn nice, but I'm definitely waiting for Apple's entry. I'll find a way to carry one as long as it can do the things I want it to do. A larger iPod Touch will definitely be something I'm looking forward to. I don't understand why people think these tablets won't be of use to them. They're not going to take the place of smartphones, but will be something for those that don't use smartphones. Fail or not, I'm buying one.

Since when does 'tablet' have a definition that it must be '8x11' large?

need 6 fingers to work it

Anyone notice the guy in the video has six fingers on his right hand? Apparently, this tablet requires more fingers than the general population.

In relation to tablet size there is the old joke: Why is an aspirin small, smooth and white? Because if it was large, grey and wrinkly it would be an elephant!

..... in a variety of colors. If they do the same with this device, I'd like a Brown Streak, please.
