Toshiba adds four new Windows 7 Satellite Pros
Toshiba UK on Friday launched four new business notebooks in its Satellite Pro series, all preloaded with Windows 7 Professional. The additions include the 13.3-inch U500, the 15.6-inch L500, the 17.3-inch L550, 15.6-inch L450 and the same-sized L450D. Each includes Toshiba's LifeSpace application suite just for Windows 7-powered Toshiba notebooks, which helps users to organize their appointments and help them find up to 5,000 recently accessed files visually.
The Satellite Pro U500 comes with either a 2.2GHz or a 2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo CPU, either with 2GB or 4GB of RAM. All variations use an Intel GMA 4500MHD graphics cjo[set, with hard drive capacities ranging from 250GB to 400GB. All also have DVD drives, webcams, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The three USB ports can charge devices even when the notebook is powered off, and one of these doubles as an eSATA connection.
The Satellite Pro L500 also gets a choice of two Core 2 Duo Intel CPUs, with the base chip a 2GHz unit, and the optional one being the same 2.53 CPU as in the U500. All but the top range model, which includes an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650. have Intel's integrated graphics. RAM ranges from 2GB to 4GB, while hard drives include 160GB, 320GB and 400GB capacities. Like in the U500, there is Wi-Fi but no Bluetooth, as well as an HDMI connection. A memory card reader is integrated, as are three USB inputs, one of which again has eSATA support. A webcam is also part of the package.
The larger, 17.3-inch LED-backlit L550 comes in one model only, with a 2.53GHz Core 2 Duo CPU and 4GB of RAM. The sole hard drive option is a 400GB unit and graphics are handled by ATI's HD 4650 chipset. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, HDMI, a card reader and the same three-port USB expansion are all similar to earlier models.
The Satellite Pro L450/L450D can be had with a 2GHz Celeron or Core 2 Duo CPU in the regular version or else with a 2.1GHz AMD Athlon X2 in the D model. Other than the Radeon HD 3200 graphics in the D model versus an integrated Intel graphics processor, other specs are nearly identical. There is either 1GB, 2GB or 4GB of RAM as well as either 160GB or 250GB hard disk. As with other Satellite Pro models, there is a webcam, microphone and three USB ports, with one doubling as an eSATA port. Wi-Fi and a card reader still come along.
All four new Toshiba notebooks will ship late in October, with prices for the U500 starting at the equivalent of $935. The L500 range starts at $770, while the L550 costs nearly $1,200. The L450 notebooks start at $540.
