Samsung 10.1-inch e-paper display just 0.7mm thin

Samsung is demonstrating a color 10.1-inch e-paper device at the currently ongoing FPD International show in Japan. The display is also ultra-thin, thanks to integrated circuits in the TFT glass substrate, which is glass. This makes the display rigid, while a plastic color filter and e-paper from E Ink are flexible.

The display's resolution is 450x600 pixels, and it has a 10:1 contrast ratio. The reflectance is fixed at 12 percent while it reproduces about seven percent of the NTSC color gamut. The display is just 0.7mm thick.

While it's not known what type of product the display will eventually be housed in, Samsung is planning on commercializing it within a year or two. An e-book reader seems to be the most likely application, however. [via Tech-On]
