Toshiba outs updated Windows 7 notebooks

Toshiba released updated Satellite Pro, Tecra and Portégé business notebooks on Tuesday to get its work PCs onboard with Windows 7. The Satellite Pro line features new screen sizes, including traditional 15.6-inch and 17.3-inch displays as well as a 13.3-inch touchscreen. Most of these business-oriented notebooks will ship with Windows XP Professional and Windows 7 Professional on separate DVDs so businesses can upgrade whenever they are ready. The new Satellite Pro U500 Touch has a multi-touch display and ships with Toshiba's touch-ready productivity software, LifeSpace.

LifeSpace consists of Toshiba Bulletin Board and Toshiba ReelTime applications. The former is an organizer for documents, links, photos, videos and applications, while the latter helps users find files thanks to a visual timeline. Pricing for the Satellite Pro U500 Touch starts at $999.

The 12.1-inch convertible tablet Portégé M750 has been upgraded with new Intel Core 2 Duo CPUs, including the 2.2GHz T6600, 2.4GHz P8600 and 2.53GHz P9400. These models ship with Windows XP Tablet PC Edition preloaded, but also include Windows 7 Professional on separate media. Prices start at $1,279.

Toshiba also added the 15.6-inch Satellite Pro L450 series and 17.3-inch L550 desktop replacement notebooks with Windows 7 availability. Pricing for the L450 starts at $529, while L550s start at $999 and were recently announced for a release in the UK.
